Pi1B pulsations have been associated with substorm onsets and have been observed on the ground and at geosynchronous orbit as compressional waves. CLUSTER data, from a radial distance of ~ 19Re in the tail, show the consistent presence of these waves around substorm onsets but also they show the association of these waves with fast flows. In this presentation, the relationship of these pulsations with the substorm related fast flows is studied. In addition, we use a data base of all substorm onsets that took place during the 2001- 2004 CLUSTER tail seasons to establish the relation of these waves and substorm onsets.
