Solar Disk: Velocity Fields, Solar Disk: Methods Of Reduction

Scientific paper

The authors describe the computer techniques HELICOR and HELICOR-M for determining precise heliographic coordinates of details (spots, pores, etc.) on the solar disk. Due to consequent correction of systematic errors, the algorithm can be accurate to within 0.05 heliographic degrees of arc. The authors discuss scales of the errors and their influence on the horizontal velocity field measured by means of solar details used as tracers. Methods are proposed for studying the distortions and introducing corrections for atmospheric refraction, general optical distortion, position-angle error, plate-holder inclination, plate scale, etc.
