Propagation of a plane magnetohydrodynamic shock wave in an inhomogeneous plasma medium and a transverse magnetic field is considered. Based on Whitham's method, the authors derive the wave front velocity and the gas parameters behind the wave front as functions of coordinate along the propagation path at arbitrary magnetic field intensity and initial Mach number of the wave.
