We investigate time-varying, localized reconnection at a current sheet with antiparallel magnetic fields and non-uniform plasma flow. For the description of the initial flow and magnetic field we use an exact solution of the ideal MHD equations. Reconnection is initiated in a localized region corresponding to a finite segment of the stagnation line of the initial plasma flow, with the reconnection rate an arbitrary function of time. We study the time evolution of the outflow region and the shocks which propagate along the current sheet away from the reconnection site.
