Empirical models of the solar contribution to ionospheric conductance (e.g., Moen and Brekke 1993; Senior et al. 1991) have largely been developed using incoherent scatter radar (ISR) observations; observations that provide the best measurement of height-integrated conductances. One disadvantage of this method is that the relationship between conductance and solar zenith angle is derived at a single location, i.e. at a single geomagnetic latitude. We present and compare similar empirical relationships derived from combining SuperDARN HF radar observations coincident with ground-based magnetometer measurements. Combining these observations to estimate the local height-integrated Hall conductance is a significantly more indirect method which requires several simplifying assumptions, however it does offer some advantages: This method allows for empirical relationships to be defined as a function of geomagnetic latitude or as a function of position relative to auroral boundaries. The shear size of the statistics also allows for finer binning of the observations, such as a function of magnetic local time or activity level.
