The relationship between flares and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) is a topic of continuing research interest and some controversy. Data recorded by the C2 and C3 coronagraphs on LASCO have been analysed and used to define a distinct class of CMEs associated with M- and X-class X-ray flares. A complete set of these flares covering the period 1996-1999 has been examined. Additional selected events from 2000 through 2002 are included. Candidate CMEs were identified based on timing and position. Only those CMEs with multiple, well-defined height-time (H-T) tracks are considered. Some of these events yield H-T plots with tracks that intersect at low solar height. The time of this intersection is defined to be the CME "launch time". This launch time is consistent with the start time of the GOES X-ray flares as defined by NOAA with an uncertainty of minutes. These CMEs are faster than typical LASCO events. The fitting of the H-T curves yields constant speed, deceleration, or a small acceleration. The faster events tend to have larger decelerations.
