Phtographs of the Sun taken in January and July allow comparison of the apparent size of the Sun as it appears in the Northern Hemisphere winter to its apparent size in the summer. This comparison allows teachers and students to address misconceptions about the reason for the seasons, to move to an understanding of the correct explanation, and to see direct evidence for the elliptical planetary orbits described in Kepler's first law.
