Previously the MER team has identified the presence of Fe(III)-sulfates in the bright track soils exposed at Paso Robles, Gusev crater. Here we compare our extensive library suites of sulfate spectra to the Pancam, Moessbauer, and Mini-TES MER data to identify the specific salt mineralogies present (i.e., chemistry, hydration state), as constrained by APXS data and phase equilibria, and determine their geochemical formational environment (e.g., pH, oxidation state).
