Parallel determination of the palaeogeomagnetic field intensity have been made using the Thellier method and the ARM method in which the alternating field demagnetization curves of natural remanent magnetization (NRM) and laboratory induced anhysteretic remanent magnetization (ARM) are sompared. In the latter method the field interval over which comparison is made is the same as that in which the coercivity spectra of the NRM and ARM coincide. Provided this criterion can be applied, the results of the two methods agree to within about 5% if the maxima of the two spectra lie within about 50 Oe of each other.
