The phase space of states and the nature of the trajectories of the coplanar relative motion of a spacecraft in the proximity of an orbital base in circular orbit are examined. A docking technique in which a line of sight of variable angular velocity is used for guidance is proposed and is shown to hold for a wide range of initial conditions when the control vector is directed normal to the line of sight.
