The paper describes the principal features of the European GEOS satellite, a spin-stabilized geosynchronous satellite that will measure magnetic, electric, and particle fields at various fixed magnetic longitudes in the earth's outer magnetosphere. Attention is given to the various experiment objectives and their instruments, ground data handling, electromagnetic and chemical cleanliness of the spacecraft, the mission profile, and geosynchronous orbital operations. A summary of the spacecraft design is given.
