Partitioning of Mg-Fe2+ between coexisting olivine and spinel is examined in sixty-eight lherzolite xenoliths that range from relatively undeformed rocks through intermediate varieties to extremely deformed and recrystallized tectonites. The partitioning data is plotted in a two-dimensional diagram whose axes represent (ln KD - 4 × YFe3+SP) and YCrSP. The different textural types can be distinguished from each other with reference to two isotherms (700°C and 1200°C) empirically determined by Evans and Frost. The less deformed rocks fall nearer the 1200°C isotherm, whereas the more deformed rocks fall close to the 700°C isotherm with the intermediate varieties falling in between. The same relationship has been found in the same suite of rocks using the two-pyroxene thermometer.
