The Goldreich-Schubert theory (1967) of differential rotation in stars is considered. An approximate analysis is presented of the two-dimensional motion of a perturbed volume in a rotating star without consideration of viscosity. The necessity of investigating nonlinear effects which change the propagation direction of perturbations is emphasized.
