The response of gas to an ovally deformed, rotating gravitational potential is investigated by following the time evolution of its motion using the Lin-Pringle quasi-particle technique. The results reveal that the gas responds to the presence of an oval distortion by forming a well-defined two-arm trailing spiral wave and elliptical rings rotating with the angular speed of the oval distortion.
