The paper reports a large enhancement of the yield of photoelectrons per
incident photon if ultrafine particles with radii not greater than 50 A
are chosen as photoemitters. The results are obtained with Ag and WO3 by
the use of an ac bridge technique making it possible to study very small
particles suspended in gases.
