Scientific paper

The micrometeoroid detector on Prospero employed for the observations makes use of the technique of impact ionization, in which the plasma generated by the impact of a high velocity particle is detected. Design and operational details concerning the micrometeoroid detector are considered and the results of the experiment are discussed. Attention is given to evidence for associations of particles, the correlation with the apex direction, and micrometeoroid rates. An evaluation is conducted of the effects of potential sources of interference.
