Scientific paper

The six-meter optical telescope and the 600-meter radiotelescope nearing completion at Zelenchuk, USSR, are described. The history of construction of the large optical telescope is reviewed; it will follow celestial objects by azimuthal movements rather than equatorial ones. A large computer will be necessary to coordinate the tracking. The multi-panneled radiotelescope will also be commanded by a computer; linkage between the two telescopes will permit simultaneous radio and optical observation of an object.
