The goal of this proposal is to address the problem of galaxy evolution. To tackle this problem, we will search for signatures of merger events and high rates of star formation across the galaxies. The data required to do this consists of velocity dispersions of galaxies in two dimensions. Using H(alpha) emission lines, the velocity fields of extragalactic star-forming regions in the galaxies NGC 6502 and I Zw 207 will be studied. The velocity shifts with respect to the local maxima will provide information regarding the overall mass distribution of the galaxy while the velocity widths will provide information of the individual HII regions. Together the emission line shifts and widths will be measured to investigate the interplay between global and localized galaxy parameters. This is a pilot project to study the morphologies and star formation rates of high redshift galaxies using Integral-Field-Units in 8-m class telescopes.
