We propose to obtain broadband VRI and Washington C photometry with the 1.5-m telescope of two fields in the LMC and 12 calibrating clusters for the primary purpose of accurately measuring the metallicity distributions in the fields. These fields have previously been imaged in V and I with HST with the goal of determining their star formation histories. However, interpretation of the HST color- magnitude diagrams is ambiguous in part due to inadequate knowledge of the metallicity distributions. In one of the fields, we will also provide an additional constraint on the star formation history by exploring the age-metallicity relation for ages < 4 Gyr.
