Vertical variations of electron temperature and density in the high-latitude ionosphere associated with the presence of a vertically distributed longitudinal two-layer electrostatic field are studied. If the field is located sufficiently high (at heights exceeding the earth's radius), the electron density at heights above 250 km is practically independent of the electrostatic field, while the electron temperature increases as the field decreases. If the field is located at about 1000 km, the electron density at heights of 250-6000 km decreases as the field increases, while the electron temperature increases.
