It is shown that the introduction of bulk viscosity will remove the initial singularity in homogeneous and isotropic cosmological models filled with a mixture of matter and radiation and having density-dependent coefficients of bulk viscosity. Mathematical analysis is performed utilizing the equation of state for a mixture of noninteracting matter and radiation and the usual form of the energy-momentum tensor for an imperfect fluid. The analysis indicates that bulk viscosity appears to be an efficient mechanism for removing the initial singularity in the considered class of cosmological models.
