Dynamical characteristics of interplanetary shock waves are discussed with reference to solar, interplanetary scintillation, and geomagnetic data obtained during the second study of traveling interplanetary phenomena (STIP) interval (March-May 1976). The relation between the shock velocity and the heliocentric distance is determined for two shock waves. For the shock wave generated by a solar flare at 08 UT March 23, the velocity is found to be proportional to the -0.4 power of the distance, which suggests a blast-like deceleration. The trajectory for the shock wave generated 21 UT on April 30 is characterized as piston-driven at distances up to 0.4 AU, while at greater distances the velocity is proportional to the -0.8 power of the distance, which suggests strong deceleration.
