The paper presents evaluations of the evolution of the electron flux energy spectrum which are based on measurements of penetration into the atmosphere; formation of secondary particles is taken into account. The energy spectrum of the overall flux is found to depend on the pitch-angle distribution. The height profile of the rate of formation of fundamental ions is calculated for various initial energy and angular spectra.
