The paper briefly describes some of the new knowledge obtained in the field of particle-and-field astrophysics, with reference to work carried out at the University of Chicago. Attention is also given to deep-space and planetary missions which have reached or will reach distant points in the solar system - missions such as Pioneer 10 and 11, the two Voyagers, and the forthcoming Solar Polar Mission. Some of the topics discussed are relative abundances of elements in cosmic rays, Be as a measure of cosmic ray lifetime, energy spectrum of cosmic ray nuclei entering the solar system, electron passage from Jupiter, large-scale effects of solar modulation, and cosmic ray intensity increases with radial distance from the sun.
