The abundances and isotopic compositions of noble gases in samples from two ultramafic xenoliths in alkali basalts are reported and compared with the abundances of other mantle samples. One sample is a young kaersutitic amphibole separated from a peridotite xenolith from Dish Hill, California, and the other sample is an ancient wholerock lherzolite xenolith from Baja California. Excesses of He-3 and Xe-129 as well as a general enrichment of the lighter-mass nonradiogenic isotopes of Ar, Kr, and Xe were detected, and Ar-40/Ar-36 = 300.
