Scientific paper

The paper describes an iterative method for treating multiple scattering in an extended random medium. The method is based on the use of single-scatter theory to derive a recurrence relation for the complex field, and this relation is used in conjunction with the Markov assumption to derive recurrence relations for the complex field moments of all orders. No restrictions are placed on the incremental layer thickness or on the fluctuations of the index of refraction. A local phase-screen approximation is used to develop alternative recurrence relations.
