Burg's (1978) algorithm is applied to the spectral analysis of a signal that is the sum of 11 sinusoids intermixed with different noise levels. It is noted that at a noise level that is less than 17 percent of the magnitude of the lowest magnitude component, all expected peaks were easily identified and most of the power was concentrated within narrow frequency ranges. An analysis of individual signal components does not confirm the results of previous investigations, in that the splitting hierarchy appears independent of the wave parameters. The addition of new components is found to lead to progressively smaller frequency shifts and higher orders of appearance for splitting phenomena.
