The present theoretical lightcurve calculations, which encompass Thompson and light scattering, are shown to reproduce Type Ia supernovae with a slow premaximum rise. These calculations are based on delayed detonation models in which a transition from a deflagration to a detonation occurs as a result of the pulsation of an exploding white dwarf. The interaction with an extended low density envelope generated during the pulsation redistributed the kinetic energy within the ejecta. These effects are illustrated for the case of the explosion of a 1.2 solar-mass CO white dwarf.
