Mars Global Surveyor arrived at Mars on 11 September 1997. For
approximately the first four months the spacecraft undergoes
``aerobraking.'' Aerobraking consists of dipping into Mars' atmosphere
to lower the spacecraft's orbit. This article presents the aerobraking
process as a classroom activity.
