Exploiting the unprecedented spectroscopic sensitivity of the HST-Cosmic Origins Spectrograph, we present new far-UV observations of CO and H2 emission from protoplanetary disks. Hundreds of photo-excited H2 emission lines are detected in every gas-rich disk spectrum. Emission and absorption lines of CO have been observed for the first time in the UV spectra of young circumstellar disks. Modeling suggests the surprising result that the abundance ratios of CO and H2 are of order unity (CO/H2 ~ 1) in the inner disks of these systems. We also present the first detailed modeling of electron impact-excited H2 in a protoplanetary disk, and results indicate that the red far-UV color and attenuation of discrete Lyman and Werner band H2 emission features is consistent with absorption by hydrocarbons in the inner disk.
