A simple extension of the left-right symmetric model is shown to generate a real Goldstone boson, whose properties are similar to the majoron. Its coupling to matter is such that astrophysical requirements are satisfied with a right-handed WR-boson scale higher than 50 TeV and without any need for a heavier scale. This model provides interesting decay properties for heavier neutrinos (<~1 keV), making them cosmologically acceptable and could also be relevant in understanding the large and small scale dark matter problem of the universe.
