A preliminary measurement of the bbar b production cross section (σ (bbar b)) in pN interactions was performed by the HERA-B experiment running at the 920 GeV HERA proton beam. Delayed J/ψ → l+l- events from b decays were observed in a sample of about 1.35 million events acquired during the year 2000 commissioning phase of the experiment. A combined analysis of the e+e- and μ+μ- final states lead to a value σ (bbar b) = 32{ - 12stat }{ + 14} ± 7sys {nb/nucleon} .
