A study was conducted of propagation over a closely antipodal path during July 1959. Results showed that at frequencies between 12-30 Mc/s, the path was efficient between 1700-2400-1000, LST, receiver time. For these frequencies, absorption was almost complete between 1000-1700 LST, receiver timeE A secondary absorption period occurred (for frequencies below 12 Mc/s) between 2000-0300 LST, receiver time. This cyclic occurrence of absorption followed by efficient propagation was approximately constant and about the same for both quiet and disturbed conditions. During the latter periods, however, spotty absorption at the higher frequencies was noted. In a comparison study it was found that during disturbed periods, propagation over the closely antipodal path was markedly superior to propagation over a North Atlantic path. In terms of frequencies utlized and hours of the day propagation occurred, the actual reception over a closely antipodal path proved superior to that expected from the usual MUF type predictions.
