Evidence is presented for a close relationship between the direction of drifting of subpulses from a pulsar and its position in a P-P diagram. Subpulse data is presented for fourteen pulsars, indicating that subpulses from high P pulsars drift later and that low P pulsar subpulses drift earlier. It is thought that subpulses are associated with discrete emission sources and that subpulse drift is caused by the sources moving asynchronously with the pulsar rotation rate. Dragging on the particle bunches responsible for the subpulses may be associated with pulsar braking which in turn is associated with the dipole moment M. Subpulses drift later in pulsars with large dipole moments and earlier in pulsars with small dipole moments.
