This paper describes an i.r. hygrometer which measures the absolute
water vapour content in the atmosphere. The instrument is easy to
handle, it can be used with either the sun or the moon as a radiation
source, and its design minimizes errors due to atmospheric aerosols. The
instrument has already been used for astronomical site testing
