Einstein's equations are solved for a class of spatially homogeneous, anisotropic, perfect fluid, cosmological models in 1 + d +D dimensions (d, D arbitrary). Is is found that they can in general lead to universes with 3 dimensions expanding and D contracting. Furthermore, assuming this process to be isentropic, the temperature T is found to eventually drop below 1/R (R = radius of the compact space). A scenario for how the universe can pass from the multi-dimensional phase to the usual Friedman-Robertson-Walker one at this point, is then outlined. The horizon problem for these models is examined. It is found that the entropy falling within a causal horizon at the point of dimensional reduction is essentially a free parameter.
