The variable red giant R Aquarii has a period of about a year, a magnitude between six and eleven, is 750 light-years distant from the sun, and emits a jet travelling at 2000 km/s. The star is believed to have a white dwarf companion which is surrounded by the red giant's outer atmosphere, forming a symbiotic star. The star may be surrounded at the equator by an accretion disk of diameter 25 A.U.
