A method is presented to investigate the distribution of linear polarization of radiation across a stellar disk from an analysis of lunar occultation curves observed simultaneously with two polarizers which are aligned perpendicular and parallel to the direction of the lunar limb motion. The strip distributions of brightness and the occultation curves observed for these senses of polarization are calculated for plane-parallel and spherically symmetric extended models of a Rayleigh scattering atmosphere. It is shown that polarization effects can be observed only for the stars with quite extended atmospheres. These effects are independent of atmospheric scintillation of the star and of the influence of lunar limb irregularities.
