We propose to image the densest parts of the nearest young cluster, in the L1688 dark cloud in Ophiuchus, using the NIC 3 camera on HST at J and H. The L1688 cluster is unique in its proximity to Earth, only 125 pc away; and in its high proportion of optically invisible protostars. When observed with the superior HST/NIC 3 resolution {0arcs25 or 30 AU} and sensitivity {J_ max = 22.5, H_ max = 21.6}, we believe this cluster will provide three ``firsts" at once - the first image of a cluster of protostars, the first population of protobinaries, and the first population of protostellar disks, resolved by their scattered starlight.
