The JVAS/CLASS radio survey has been the most successful to date at finding arcsecond-scale gravitational lenses, almost doubling the known number {11 lenses found of which 10 are new discoveries}. The most surprising result of the survey, which contradicts much accepted theory, has been that a significant number of lenses appear to be disk rather than elliptical systems. NICMOS observations of the JVAS/CLASS lenses will {i} give clear indications of the nature of the lensing galaxy where this is ambiguous, {ii} give much better constraints on the stellar light distribution in the reddened galaxies, and {iii} in one case, provide the only likely chance of detecting the lensed images of the background quasar. All but one of the lenses in this proposal have been discovered, and the redshifts and radio maps obtained, by the JVAS/CLASS collaboration based at Jodrell Bank which includes the authors. We propose to make a systematic NICMOS survey of these objects.
