The luminous IRAS Galaxies are probably powered by nuclear starbursts and/or central AGNs; many of these systems exhibit evidence of recent galactic interaction or merging. For a sample of ultraluminous IRAS galaxies, we propose high resolution J and H and K imaging to probe for multiple galctic nuclei, stellar bars and AGNs. Most of these objects are at z<0.1 {distances 77-400 Mpc} with 0.15" resolution corresponding to 55-300pc. Imaging in all 3 bands will yield estimates of the dust extinction and constrain the intrinsic colors of the luminosity sources, be they a starburst clusters, evolved stellar populations or AGNs. For the broadband imaging, PSF stars will be observed. In systems with appropriate redshift for the NICMOS filter set, P-alpha images will be obtained to quantitatively assess the relative luminosities of the starburst and point-like AGN sources. {Timing is such that no parallels should be done with WFPC2 or STIS.}
