Scientific paper

To avoid loss of science data due to particle-induced CCD resets during passage through the SAA, the CCD wiill be reconfigured after each SAA passage. When the CCD is reconfigured it is brought to Protect state momentarily. Ground testing had shown that when the CCD goes into Protect state {at least for long period of time} there is elevated dark current for 1 hour after. This proposal will seek to demostrate whether the reconfiguration, with its momentary passage through Protect causes an elevated dark current, and/or bias or amplifier variations. If it does the reconfigure fsw macro may need to be modified. During one orbit, immediately following emergence from the SAA {i.e., immediately after the reconfigure command has been given to the CCD}, we will take a series of 3 12 minute darks, separated by 3 bias frames and quick flat field exposures, all taken at GAIN=1. Repeat this exact sequence a second time, also immediately following a CCD reset. Finally repeat orbit during an SAA-free series of orbits, when CCD has been in OPERATE for at least 1 hour.
