A dispersion equation for a heated-plasma wave propagation along the plasma sheet is obtained on the basis of a self-consistent solution for field-aligned currents (FACs) generated in the magnetosphere on pressure gradients of the magnetospheric plasma and for the change in pressure induced by plasma heating by these currents. It is shown that the heating of the magnetospheric plasma by FAC leads to the stratification of these currents into structures extended along the plasma drift line in the external electric field.
