Post-AGB (PAGB) stars passing through spectral types F and A are the brightest members of old populations. We have used uBVI CCD photometry on the KPNO 4-m to identify PAGB candidates in the halo of M31, with a mean V=20.9. These stars are of importance as tracers of halo structure and dynamics, for studying advanced evolutionary stages of low-mass stars, and because we believe they are an excellent new standard candle for measuring extragalactic distances. The aim of the MMT observations proposed here is to obtain spectra of 2 dozen of our PAGB candidates in the halo of M31. The spectra will (1) verify that they really are PAGB stars in the M31 halo, (2) allow us to determine stellar parameters (T_eff, log g) for each star, (3) yield radial velocities for dynamical studies of the M31 halo, and (4) possibly identify a separate, brighter population of Pop I supergiants ejected into the halo of M31.
