The build-up phase of an astrophysical fluid jet is investigated by numerical means. A central object in a quasar or active galaxy imparts momentum to the surrounding gas; the turbulent redistribution of this momentum throughout the fluid is mimicked by introducing a large viscosity into the gas-dynamics equations. The overall characteristics of the resulting jet are investigated and compared with the analytical and numerical results of Nepven (1984 and 1985), Icke (1983), and Wang (1983).
