Optimal linear filtering of photograms in the signal-dependent noise case is investigated through use of a simulated test signal. The simulated test signal is developed from experimental data on the signal and color dependence of photographic granulation noise. Generalization of the optimal standard Wiener filter to the non-stationary signal-dependent noise case yields the best performance-to-computing time ratio. In terms of precision, however, the space variant adaptive filter is superior.
