The instability of magnetosonic waves driven by alpha-particle beams and propagating along the magnetic field of a plasma consisting of electrons, protons, and alpha particles with anisotropic temperatures has been analyzed. The electromagnetic dispersion relation with a perpendicular wave number of zero has been solved numerically for typical solar-wind conditions. The growth rate was found to occur near the helium cyclotron frequency.
