Thermochemical and kinetic data on metal oxides, metal dioxides, and their ions are summarized. Ratios of metal-to-metal oxide ions are calculated under steady state conditions and are compared with mass spectrometric data. It is suggested that some of the assignments in the atmospheric composition studies and in atmospheric models need to be revised.
