Despite the recent focus on the coupling between the thermosphere-ionosphere system with the lower atmosphere, solar forcing remains the major driver on most global structure and dynamics of the T-I regime. The ten years of successful flight of the CHAMP satellite have made great contributions to the T-I response to solar forcing in various aspects. This talk reviews the solar flux dependence of neutral density, plasma density and temperature in the equatorial and middle latitude regions, and attempts to clarify the coupling between them.
