We examine the background ionospheric conditions for the generation of plasma bubbles and blobs by analyzing the CNOFS/CINDI data between August 2008 and April 2010. Our preliminary case-study results show that bubbles and blobs occur preferentially under the high and low background plasma density conditions, respectively. Just before the sunrise, however, we have identified several cases that show the occurrence of bubbles under the low background plasma density condition. By statistical analysis of the CINDI data, we investigate the correlation between the plasma density and the occurrence of bubbles and blobs at pre-midnight and post-midnight. The blob occurrence rate shows a decreasing tendency with an increase of the solar flux. We examine whether the solar flux dependence of the blob occurrence rate is related to the change in the background plasma density. In addition to the statistical analysis, we carry out cases studies to examine the day-to-day variation of the bubble and blob occurrence and its association with the background ionospheric conditions.
